Water and exercise

The body needs water. The functions that water performs in the body during exercise to support weight loss are involved in essential chemical reactions such as maintaining body temperature, lubricating joints, and maintaining muscle.

When an individual exercises to aid in weight loss, the body will heat up due to increased levels of energy. Your body will lose water through sweat. The more intense your exercise routine, the more you sweat. If that water isn’t replaced, the body – in an effort to maintain blood and plasma volumes – will start pulling water from muscles, and then your organs. When this happens, you may experience cramping, premature fatigue, and a decline in exercise performance.
